Military students complete commercial logistics recce at Meachers

Students from the DCLPA visit Meachers

Meachers Global Logistics welcomed military students from the Defence College of Logistics, Policing & Administration (DCLPA) in Worthy Down for a recce mission to gain insight into how logistics works in the civilian world.

The 16 students are from the Engineer Logistics Division and studying military logistics at the college. The aim of the visit was to grow their knowledge and understanding of commercial logistics.

The group was given a tour of Meachers’ warehouse facility in Nursling, Southampton, and an overview of the processes it uses.

They were shown the key equipment and software used to collect, store and transport consignments all around the world. They were also given insight into communications systems and the wider supply chain pipeline for commercial logistics.

Gary Whittle, Commercial Director at Meachers, said:

“It was a pleasure to work with the college and open our doors to their students. The visit gave them an opportunity to see our processes up close, put questions to our team and gain a better understanding of a side to logistics that they might otherwise not get to experience.

“We’re always happy to partner with schools and colleges and show what it is we do and the important role our industry plays in keeping business moving.”

Sgt Santosh Gurung, Trainer from the Engineer Logistics Division at DCLPA, added:

“Everybody enjoyed taking part and we would like to thank the team at Meachers Global Logistics for hosting us. The visit provided a real insight into how the logistics operation functions within the civilian industry. It was a great opportunity to witness the complete supply chain process, from receiving goods to delivery and consignment tracking, which is what our students are learning about.”
