This February marks a remarkable milestone in our company’s history, the 30 year anniversary of the management buyout that returned Meachers to private ownership in 1996. From Coal Deliveries to a Growing Transport Enterprise
The Meachers story began in the 1940s, when the Meacher family established the business as a coal supplier. What started as a modest operation soon began to evolve, expanding into general haulage as the company recognised new opportunities in the local and regional transport landscape.
By 1958, this growth and ambition led to the formation of Meachers Transport, marking the beginning of our journey as a structured, forward looking Limited Company.
A New Chapter Under Pirelli
The company’s development continued steadily over the following decades, culminating in its purchase in 1981 by Pirelli General PLC. With the acquisition came the end of the Meacher family’s involvement, but the business remained in familiar hands, the existing management team continued to run operations and steer the organisation through its next phase.
For fifteen years, this partnership powered ongoing progress, stability, and transformation.
