Meachers Global Logistics is proud to celebrate the achievement of team member Matthew Cox, who has successfully passed his HGV Class 1 Licence. Matthew’s journey from the warehouse to the driver’s seat is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and the support of the Meachers team.

A Lifelong Dream Come True

For Matthew, becoming an HGV driver has always been a lifelong dream. Inspired by his father, Andy Cox, who is also a lorry driver here at Meachers. “I’ve been around lorries my whole life, and I always knew this was the career I wanted to pursue,” Matthew shared.

Career Progression Through Warehouse to Wheels

Matthew joined Meachers Global Logistics two years ago, starting his career in the warehouse at Fair Oak. His ambition to progress within the company led him to take part in Meachers Global Logistics’ Warehouse to Wheels programme, which supports employees transitioning from warehouse roles into professional driving positions with ByPass Driver Training. Through this initiative, he pursued his Class 1 HGV licence, overcoming several challenges along the way. “The theory test was a big challenge, and the reversing manoeuvres were a steep learning curve,” he admitted. However, through extensive revision, self-confidence, and invaluable advice from experienced colleagues, he was able to succeed.

Reflecting on his journey, Matthew highlighted the key moments that made the process memorable. “Passing my reversing and practical test on the first attempt was an incredible personal achievement.”

Support from Meachers

Meachers Global Logistics played a crucial role in supporting Matthew’s career progression. “The company was incredibly patient with me during my theory test challenges, allowing me time to revise during quiet periods and providing access to a spare computer for study materials,” he explained. Special thanks go to Matt Robinson, who helped him learn coupling and uncoupling techniques and provided key tips for reversing, and Gary Whittle, who regularly checked in and offered words of encouragement throughout the process.

Looking Ahead to a Promising Future

Now, with his Class 1 HGV licence in hand, Matthew is excited about the opportunities ahead. “Achieving this qualification has allowed me to fulfil my goal of becoming a driver at a young age, setting me up for even bigger career ambitions in the future. I’m grateful to Meachers for giving me this opportunity.”

A Commitment to Talent Development

Gary Whittle, Commercial Director at Meachers Global Logistics, expressed his pride in Matthew’s accomplishment. “At Meachers, we believe in investing in our people and helping them grow within the company. Matthew’s dedication and determination are truly commendable, and we are delighted to see him achieve this milestone.”

Meachers Global Logistics continues to invest in talent development, supporting employees in reaching their career goals. Matthew’s success story is a shining example of the company’s commitment to nurturing future logistics professionals.
