At Meachers Global Logistics, we’re proud to be at the forefront of sustainable innovation in the logistics sector. In partnership with DP World, we recently completed an electric vehicle (EV) container trial that marks a significant step toward a cleaner, more resilient future for global trade.
Last month, DP World conducted its first EV truck container test from Southampton Port to Portbury Dock, with Meachers providing the logistics expertise to make it happen. The journey spanned 400km round trip, transporting 21 tons of cargo, a real-world test of electric freight viability.
The Results Speak Volumes
– 66% fewer emissions compared to traditional diesel trucks
– No additional charging required during the journey
– 25% battery remaining upon arrival
These results demonstrate not only the environmental benefits of EV logistics but also the operational efficiency and reliability of the technology.
A Vision for 2030 and Beyond
This successful trial is just the beginning. DP World has set an ambitious goal: by 2030 they aim to deploy 1,000 electric trucks across their European ports and terminals. Meachers Global Logistics is proud to support this vision, helping to lead the charge toward a greener, smarter supply chain.
Investing in Innovation: The Role of Southampton Distribution Centre
This is not Meachers’ first foray into reducing carbon emissions in Southampton. The Southampton Distribution Centre (SDC) plays a critical role in our broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions across the supply chain. The SDC is a purpose-built logistics hub designed to support sustainable freight operations through:
- Consolidate and lower the number of deliveries made to your business
- Track and lower admin and resource needed to process deliveries
- Allow deliveries to be made at quieter and more convenient times of the day
- Lower your environmental impact and carbon footprint in the city
The SDC reflects our proactive investment in future-ready logistics infrastructure, supporting both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Why It Matters
The logistics industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining high levels of service and reliability. Trials like this prove that sustainable transport solutions are not only possible, they’re practical. By embracing electric vehicles, we’re helping to build a future where global trade is both efficient and environmentally responsible.
Stay tuned as we continue to collaborate with partners like DP World to drive innovation and sustainability across every mile we travel.
