Meachers Showcases Opportunities at Maritime and Transport Career Day

Meachers Global Logistics proudly participated in the Maritime and Transport Career Programmes Career Day, hosted at ABP’s Ocean Gate Terminal. The event attracted over 360 attendees, marking a 50% increase compared to last year and highlighting growing interest in careers within the maritime and transport sectors.

The Career Day provided an invaluable platform for students and job seekers to explore the diverse opportunities available. It was attended by leading companies including Carnival, Ferryspeed, Williams Shipping, Red Funnel, DP World, Solent Stevedores, and Whittaker Tankers, alongside Meachers Global Logistics. Feedback from participants underscores the event’s success in raising awareness and inspiring future talent.

Prior to the event, 36% of attendees reported having no knowledge of maritime and transport careers, while 55% had some understanding and only 9% felt they knew a lot. After attending the Careers Day, these figures shifted dramatically: 73% of participants said they now have a strong understanding of the industry, with none reporting zero knowledge. This demonstrates the event’s effectiveness in educating and engaging future professionals.

Attendees highlighted several standout moments from the day. Many were impressed by the sheer number of different roles available within the sector and discovered positions they didn’t know existed. Conversations with business professionals were particularly valued, offering real-world insights into career paths. And, of course, the trucks on display were a major attraction, drawing plenty of attention and excitement.

When asked what could make the day even better, suggestions included having more time to visit all the stands and hosting the event during the summer months. However, a significant number of participants simply said, “Nothing—it was amazing!” underscoring the overall success of the event.

In terms of enjoyment, career stands were the most popular feature, with 50% of attendees citing them as their favorite part of the day. Outdoor activities followed closely at 35%, while speed networking accounted for 15%, providing a dynamic mix of experiences for all participants.

As part of its commitment to developing future talent, Meachers offers its innovative Warehouse to Wheels programme, designed to help individuals progress from warehouse roles to professional driving positions. The company also accepts apprenticeships from age 16 and above, ensuring young people have a clear pathway into the logistics industry.

Helen Prikockis, Head of Marketing at Meachers Global Logistics, commented:
“We’re thrilled to see such enthusiasm and engagement. The event not only showcased the breadth of careers available but also helped attendees connect directly with industry professionals. It’s inspiring to see the next generation excited about maritime and transport.”
