Following in His Father’s Footsteps

Matthew Cox’s dream of becoming an HGV driver started at a young age, inspired by his father, a long-time driver at Meachers.

He began his career in the Fair Oak warehouse, where he demonstrated a strong work ethic and ambition. Recognising his potential, Meachers encouraged him to join the Warehouse to Wheels programme.

“The theory test and reversing manoeuvres were challenging,” Matthew recalls, “but the team was incredibly supportive. They gave me time to revise and access to study materials.”

With the guidance of senior drivers and mentors, Matthew passed his HGV Class 1 Licence on his first attempt, making his dream a reality.

“Now that I’ve got my licence, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead. Meachers has given me the chance to develop my career, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

ED’S SUCCESS:

From Warehouse Work to the Open Road

Ed Ralls joined Meachers in early 2022, initially working in container and pallet handling.

His dedication caught the attention of his managers, who encouraged him to enrol in the Warehouse to Wheels programme. Starting with forklift training, he quickly progressed to preparing for his Class 1 HGV licence.

“The training process was a great experience. I went from working in the warehouse to completing e-learning modules and practical driving lessons. It’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to build a stable and rewarding career.”

Ed passed his Class 1 HGV test in November 2022, securing his place as a qualified driver at Meachers. “This programme has set me up for life. If you’re considering a career in logistics, I’d 100% recommend it!”
